BOOK DISCUSSION:
"LET YOUR LIFE SPEAK: LISTENING FOR THE VOICE OF VOCATION"
“Is the life I am
living the same life that wants to live in me?” If
you’ve ever wondered about that, join us to read and discuss Let
Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation, by Parker J.
Palmer. This short book is not just for people who are thinking
about a formal “vocation” in the church, but also gently guides all
of us who want to live a life of true meaning and purpose, using our
God-given gifts.
As Parker Palmer writes in the book, “Our deepest calling is to grow
into our own authentic selfhood. As we do so, we will find not only
the joy that every human being seeks—we will also find our path of
authentic service in the world.” In our time together, we’ll discuss
Palmer’s insights and ways we each can face the questions about our
selfhood.
The study group will meet in the atrium of St. James on four
consecutive Tuesday evenings, October 13th, 20th, 27th and November
3rd, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The
group will be co-led by Eletha Buote-Greig and Lavonne Seifert, a
parishioner at Grace Church, Providence. Copies of this book will be
available for purchase. For questions about this discussion group,
please speak with Eletha, or call Lavonne at 508-779-0073. To
reserve your place, call 401-762-2222 by October 1st.
WEAVING FOR BEGINNERS
This six (6) week workshop will give all
participants an opportunity to weave one project and plan a second
one. We will begin with a pre-warped loom (scarf) so that students
may become familiar with the different parts of the loom and how
they work.
Each class night will include a discussion on various applicable
topics: types of materials for different projects, calculating
material yardage, winding the warp, dressing the loom and finishing
the project.
We will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the
new atrium of St. James. The cost for this class is $175.00, which
includes the first project. Class nights will be October 7th, 14th,
21st, 28th and November 4th, November 11th. Class size is limited to
four (4) students.
All class fees will be donated to St. James Church “Weaving for
